Riding a Shared Bike
Recently the weather has been great, and I don’t want to squeeze onto the subway every day. Last Monday morning, I saw many shared bikes parked at the entrance of my community, so I decided to try riding to the subway station. This way I can exercise and also save some time.
I used my phone to scan the code and unlock the bike, and I chose one that looked quite new. At first I wasn’t used to it, because there were many cars on the road and I had to pay attention to safety. When I reached a red light, I stopped to wait and never ran the red light. Some people rode very fast, which I felt was a bit dangerous, so I rode more slowly.
After riding for ten minutes, I arrived at the subway station. Before, walking took twenty minutes, but now it was much faster. I parked the bike in the designated place and locked it properly. Later I realized that if mornings are too crowded, riding is more convenient than taking the bus.
When I went home after work, I rode again. Although I was a little tired, I felt great. Now I ride a shared bike two or three times a week—it’s eco-friendly and makes my life healthier.

Cultural Insights
Bike-sharing in Chinese cities
Shared bikes (共享单车) are common in many Chinese cities and are often used to connect “the last kilometer” between home, the subway, and the office. Scanning a QR code (扫码) to unlock a bike is part of everyday mobile-payment culture.
Traffic rules and safety
In big cities, roads can be busy, so riders need to pay attention to safety and follow rules like stopping at red lights (红灯). Many people ride fast to save time, but safe riding is a growing public topic.
Eco-friendly habits
Choosing bikes instead of cars or taxis is often seen as environmentally friendly (环保). For some commuters, biking is also a way to exercise and improve health in a fast-paced city lifestyle.
