The Breakfast Shop

Downstairs from my home there’s a breakfast shop. The owners are a middle-aged couple, and they’re very hardworking. Every day at five in the early morning, they open for business. Before going to work, I go there to buy breakfast almost every day.

The food items in the shop are very abundant: soy milk, fried dough sticks, steamed buns, Chinese crepes, rice porridge—they have everything. My favorite is meat buns with hot soy milk. The buns are freshly steamed, fresh and juicy. The soy milk is freshly ground, fragrant and rich. Every time I eat it, I feel very satisfied.

The owner’s wife has a very good memory and knows every regular customer. She remembers my preferences, and without waiting for me to speak, she prepares what I want. Sometimes I feel she understands me better than my own mother. There are many customers in the shop, but the owner couple works fast and provides good service, so rarely do people wait too long.

The prices are also very affordable. Two buns plus a cup of soy milk only costs seven yuan. This shop has become part of my life. Whenever I go on business trips or travel, what I miss most is the breakfast here. I hope this small shop can continue operating, accompanying me and the residents of this community.
