The Door Is Left Open
After work my colleague and I were leaving the office. At the door I looked back and noticed that the lights were still on and the door was still open, so we went back to check.
Inside, a computer was still on and a colleague’s coat was hanging on the chair, so I wondered if someone was still there. Just then another colleague came back with coffee and said he was still working overtime and had only gone out to buy something.
He told us to go ahead and said he would turn off the lights and close the door later. I reminded him to close the door properly and not leave the computer on for too long because of safety, and only felt relaxed once I saw the office door closed behind us.

Cultural Insights
In office settings it is common to remind coworkers politely about lights, doors, and computers, using structures like “门还开着呢” or “记得关好门” instead of direct commands.
The pattern “我还在加班呢” is a very natural way to explain that work is still going on and to show why someone is still in the office late. [web:41]
