My Computer Won’t Turn On

Tonight I wanted to do homework at home, but my computer just wouldn’t turn on. I pressed the power button many times, but the screen was still black. I felt anxious because I had to hand it in tomorrow morning.

I checked the cables and even switched to another outlet, but it still didn’t work. I charged it for ten minutes, but it still wouldn’t turn on. With no choice, I messaged a classmate to ask if he could help.

He video-called and showed me what to press. As soon as I followed his steps, the computer turned on, and I finished my homework.

I thanked him and said he really helped me a lot.

Cultural Insights

In Chinese daily life, asking classmates or coworkers for quick tech help is common, and people often soften the request with “不好意思…方便吗?” before asking directly.[3]

Showing gratitude with phrases like “麻烦你了 / 你帮了我一个大忙” helps maintain a warm and cooperative tone, especially when someone spends time helping you.
