微信语音指路:去吃饺子别走错

要求:本故事中,学习区 Vocabulary 表里的 10 个词必须在中文故事里全部出现,并且全部加 tooltip(拼音 + 英文)。另外,中文故事里所有 A2 以上的词也都要加 tooltip(拼音 + 英文)。

Giving Directions by WeChat Voice: Don’t Walk the Wrong Way to Dumplings

Requirement: In this story, the 10 words listed in the Vocabulary table must all appear in the Chinese story and all be tooltipped (pinyin + English). Also, all words above A2 level in the Chinese story should be tooltipped (pinyin + English).

Tonight, Xiao Chen planned to take a friend to a famous dumpling restaurant for dinner. It was the friend’s first time in this area, so Xiao Chen worried he might get lost. He sent the address in advance and said, “When you arrive at the subway station, message me, and I’ll confirm it.”

Around seven o’clock, the friend messaged on WeChat: “I’m out of the station, but there are two exits here. Which one should I take?” Xiao Chen replied immediately with a voice message: “Come out from Exit A first. After you come out, walk straight ahead. Don’t rush—first, look for a traffic light.”

Two minutes later, the friend said again: “I see the traffic light, but there’s a crossroads ahead. I don’t know whether I should turn right or left.” Xiao Chen continued: “First cross at the traffic light, then turn right. After turning right, keep walking. At the second intersection, you’ll see a pharmacy. The dumpling restaurant is opposite the pharmacy, and there’s a red sign at the entrance—it’s very obvious.”

As the friend walked, he became worried again: “What if I walk the wrong way?” Xiao Chen said: “If you walk the wrong way, stop and send me your location, and I’ll tell you how to go. If you see the pharmacy, it means you’re going the right way. It’s not far from the restaurant.”

Soon, the friend finally arrived. He smiled and said, “You explained it so clearly—I didn’t make any wrong turns at all.” Xiao Chen smiled too: “Next time during Spring Festival, we can also make dumplings together. In China, eating dumplings for the New Year is very common, and people think it’s fun.”

Grammar

Grammar rule #1: “先…再…” (sequencing actions)
Use 先…再… to give directions in clear steps.
Structure: 先 + 动作1,then 再 + 动作2, and you can keep adding steps.
This is especially helpful when there are multiple turns or exits.
It sounds natural in spoken instructions and voice messages.

Examples:
你先从A口出来,出来以后往前走。
你先过红绿灯,过了以后再右拐。
右拐以后一直走。

Grammar rule #2: “要是…就…” (conditional advice)
Use 要是…就… to explain what to do in a possible situation (like getting lost).
The first clause gives the condition; the second clause gives the action or solution.
This pattern is common in friendly, reassuring directions.
It also makes instructions more complete and practical.

Examples:
要是走错了,你就停下来给我发定位。
如果我走错了怎么办?
你看见药店就说明方向对了。

Idiomatic Expressions

  • 别急
A friendly way to calm someone down when they feel stressed or lost. It often comes before giving the next step. The tone is warm and reassuring.
    Example: 别急,先找一个红绿灯。
  • 左右
Used after a number to mean “approximately.” It’s very common with time and distance and makes speech sound natural. It’s neutral in tone.
    Example: 七点左右
  • 不久以后
Used in narration to show that something happens shortly after. It helps the story flow smoothly. Tone is neutral and descriptive.
    Example: 不久以后,朋友终于到了。
  • 一点儿都没…
An emphatic way to say “not at all.” It’s used to stress certainty or contrast, often with mistakes, fear, or change. The tone is confident.
    Example: 我一点儿都没走错。
  • 终于
Used when something took time or effort and was achieved at last. It often conveys relief. The tone is emotional but common in daily speech.
    Example: 朋友终于到了。

Cultural Insights

  • WeChat for meet-ups
In China, 微信 is commonly used to coordinate meet-ups in real time, especially around busy stations.
People often send short 语音 messages when walking, because typing is inconvenient.
Sharing a 定位 pin is a normal way to solve “multiple exits” confusion.
This makes direction-giving faster and more practical.
  • Dumplings and Spring Festival
春节 is China’s most important holiday for family reunion.
Many families make 饺子 together, which can symbolize togetherness and good luck.
Talking about festival foods is a common social topic in daily conversations.
Dumpling restaurants are also popular casual places to meet friends.
  • Landmark-based directions
Directions often rely on landmarks like 红绿灯, 十字路口, and 药店 rather than street names.
This is especially useful near stations, where there may be many exits and similar streets.
Landmarks are visually easy to confirm, reducing the chance of getting lost.
It’s a practical habit in everyday Chinese communication.
