WEEK 7 — DAY 6
Summary (EN): Two short viewpoints describe the same event: a community outdoor music show. One person loves it; the other doesn’t enjoy it. The texts contrast 喜欢/不喜欢 and use simple comparisons like 更喜欢/比较喜欢 plus polite disagreement with 但是/不过.
LEVEL/WORDCOUNT: HSK2 / ~500 words
Same Event, Two Feelings: Someone Who Likes It and Someone Who Doesn’t
Viewpoint 1 (I really liked it): Last weekend, the community center held a small concert in the park. I often listen to songs, so when I heard the news, I was very happy.
That evening the weather was great and the park looked beautiful. I went with a friend, walked around first, and then found a good place to sit. I relatively like light music, and I like live music even more. Because people sang and played instruments, it felt very “real.”
I also met new friends. Everyone took photos and laughed together. I think this kind of activity is interesting, and I hope there will be more in the future.
Viewpoint 2 (I didn’t really like it): I know many people like music, but I relatively like quiet. That evening there were many people in the park, and it was a bit noisy. At first I wanted to listen, but later I felt too tired.
I don’t really like standing all the time, and I also don’t really like seeing too many people. However, I think this activity is good because it lets everyone come out to meet and also meet new friends. So I hope next time there will be quieter music, or fewer people.

Cultural Insights
- In casual Mandarin, people often soften disagreement with contrast words like 可是/不过 and then give a reason, instead of saying a strong “no.” [2]
- Outdoor community events in parks are common “low-cost social” activities, and people may react differently depending on whether they prefer 热闹 (lively) or 安静 (quiet).
- Saying “我比较喜欢…” or “我更喜欢…” is a friendly way to express preference without criticizing others.

[1][2] English tips: Write two short viewpoints. In each: like/dislike + because/so. Add one comparison (relatively like / like even more). End with a polite contrast using “however”.[1][2]
